Bay Area Tennis

is a new non-profit organization based in Contra Costa County that has formed to develop new recreational and social tennis events and programs, as well as to help promote existing programs, throughout the Bay Area.

This Spring, we will unveil our new Community Portal website, with the goal of promoting discussion of local tennis issues, and a source for local events and social tournaments.

At the same time, we are now actively building our new score entry web site.  The completion of the score entry system will coincide with the re-design of this page.  Expect a whole new face lift sometime in the late Spring or early Summer of 2003.

 New! Adult Team Tennis League

Bay Area Tennis is organizing a new league, based on the  exciting World Team Tennis format.   Teams will consist of at least 4 men & 4 women.  Though there is no limit to the actual size of your team roster, limiting your team to 12 players is recommended.

Matches will be hosted on a rotating basis by participating clubs.  Balls & snacks are provided by designated teams.  Four (4) lighted courts will be required for match play, but only one time per facility.  Match times are Fridays at 7PM!

A team match consists of 5 no-ad sets and includes one set of men's doubles, men's singles, women's doubles, and women's singles, and one set of mixed doubles.  Format will be No-Ad scoring with receiver's choice at 3-all, except in mixed doubles, where gender-to-gender is the rule.  Each no-ad set is won by the first team to reach 6 games.  A 9 point tiebreaker will be played at 5 games all in any set.

 Adult Social Tournaments

No Adult Tournaments are planned for 2003.

 Summer Boy's & Girl's Youth Singles League

Bay Area Tennis has found a similar league already exists in the Central Contra Costa area.  It is not totally clear if that league will return this year.  It was our hope to combine forces to better serve the youth community. But at this time it does appear likely that will happen.

Bay Area Tennis does not have any plans to develop new leagues for players 18 and under this year at this time.  Should those plans change, we advise those on our mailing list.  The problem on our part is not due to a lack of interest or concern for the tennis youth of the Bay Area, but rather a lack of committed volunteers to assist.

We will continue to look for new opportunities for youth programs, but for 2003 we decided it was best to focus on our Adult programs.

If you are an adult or teen, with a strong interest in helping to organize youth tennis programs for your area, please contact me!

If you are a boy or girl, age 18 or under, interested in connecting with others your age for tennis, email me at IWannaPlay@BayAreaTennis.com to be added to our site mailing list. Or feel free to phone me at 925-672-4109

(If I have not yet responded to your email, my apologies.  I've been focusing on the web design stuff lately, but I promise I WILL respond!)
